other makes models optional in yhe 1999 vintage

You can't beat a Toyota, really reliable cars, cheap on gas which I'm sure he would appreciate. I am on my 3rd Toyota, I had 2 Tercels which I loved and I now have a newer Corolla and I love it,

You can't go wrong with a Celica in good condition. The 1999 has a beautiful body with a Camry drivetrain, and it is not that much faster than a Camry, so you have a safety margin. If you go a little older you can get one with the Corolla drivetrain, probably the most reliable drivetrains Toyota ever built, but still not overpowered by any means. My daughter had one for her first car and adored it.

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - carquotes.sinfree.net

I'm 16, I've got a 1999 Corolla LE. It's got nearly 100k miles and running fine, despite the fact that the previous owner (my dad) seldom maintained it. Toyotas just like to last like that































To be honest I would have preferred something a bit bigger, such as a Camry or an Avalon, but maybe that's just me (I'm not a typical 16-year-old).
