i drive a 2003 corolla what side does oil leak from?

i am not sure if it was my car or a car before me that leaked oil out. i thought a way to help determine...besides the obvious, was to see if it did leak if it would be on the drivers or passenger side.

Any ideas for a 03 corolla?

You gotta look under it. Look for a drop of oil that is stuck to the bottom under the engine, like it is about to leak. If you see one, you have to reach inside from the top (when the engine is cold) and touch stuff. If you don't have any really wet oil on your fingers, the leak might be from the pan, or the filter. If you don't find any, it wasn't your car.

An '03 probably shouldn't be leaking, except if the filter wasn't put on right.

It shouldn't be leaking. However, when shops change your oil that typically pull off the filter too early and some runs out of there onto the pan. If they don't torque the filter on enough to seal the gasket you can get leakage there (or if they put it on with a bad gasket that has a wrinkle in it).

Is your oil level dropping when you look at the dipstick? If it is, get a piece of cardboard and place it under the engine. Line it up with some car body part or wheel so you can determine the location of any drips that appear on the cardboard. Run the engine for a while with the cardboard in place - two or three minutes is all that is needed.

look underneath the car and check the filter. The oil pan is on the passenger side of the car, and the transmission is on the drivers side.
