89, toyota corolla, my lights went dim...and then a bit later, came back on... alternator?...

Default 89, toyota corolla, my lights went dim...and then a bit later, came back on... alternator?...
...battery? wire? lights went dim, red battery light came on.... gased up, car wouldn't start, jumped, started lights got dimmer then lights came back on bright... is this the alternator telling me it is going to die, battery or loose wire...

First, try the wiring on the battery, which probably isn't the problem.































Second, get your battery tested...auto zone does it for free.































Third, if it isn't your battery, then it probably is your alternator, if thats the case, sorry buddy. They arent too expensive, but still, its a kick in the pocket.































More than likely it's the battery because of the red battery light and the dimmed lights. As long as the alternator works, you can still start with a jump and keep running.

Yeah, its the brushes in your alternator on their way out. Its a simple fix for any technician and shouldn't cost the earth to fix. A replacement alternator is the alternative. Get it done sooner than later because it WILL let you down any time now an you will be stuck on the side of the road.

you can try the hit and miss method or spend some money and get it checked properly - how old is the battery ? you may need a new one regardless.
