What could be provoking a soft clicking sound in an automatic transmission?
I own a 1999 Toyota Corolla with an auto transmission. I do not know if it is the three speed or four speed auto, but it came with over drive. The transmission works fine, with smooth shifts, but it produces this soft, repeating clicking sound when the gas pedal is released. If the gas pedal is pressed, and therefore the engine revs up even just a little bit, it does not sound that way. I have also noticed that this sound disappears or is considerably reduced when the over drive is turned off, but it is sometimes produced when the car is idle and the transmission is in Drive -in this cases the sound is even softer.
