Sound like the master cylinder.
when you hold your foot on the break the fluid is leaking by the piston and the pedal will eventually be on the floor and the breaks will start to release.
if you pump the breaks, the pressure will build and work again.
Just a question, you do know the difference between the booster and the master cylinder...right.
If you replaced the booster, was there any fluid in the dust cup.
