Well, you need lots LOTS more than what the car usually uses. Because the brand new fluid is used to push out all the old stuff.
So for example only--since I do not know ANY amounts or quantities--let's say your Camry takes 3 Qts of ATF. Then you might need a gallon or more to use in the machine. It would also depend on the kind of machine.
I say that because in my small town, local mechanic does good work, charges good prices, except it costs $150 to do tranny fluid change, becuase he's got one of the fancy machines that flushes, and he told me he has to use much more ATF than what car uses.
I'd rather just drain my dad's Buick for $50 rather than spend 3x that amt, but no one around to do it.
It sounds like you've got a machine that you can use yourself. Apparently, you don't have the instructions for it. Because THAT would tell you how much you'd need.
But ATF is cheap, just about $3/qt. So go to walmrt and buy a couple gallon jugs, you get a price break on gallon jugs. And you might consider using the kind for older engines, they're supposed to have certain additives to help older trannies.
But plain old Dexron is just as good to use, in fact, I prefer it, no matter how old the car is. I think it's up to Dexron #4 by now. But either #3 or 4 will do fine in that 98 Camry.
