Weird light in my 1998 Toyota Corolla?

Hi, I have a '98 Corolla, and I noticed a red light above the steering column. It's an LED that, as of late, appears to be constantly on. The alarm in my car no longer works (to my knowledge), and even after playing with the buttons on my keyfob, the light never turned off. Does anyone know what this light is for? I checked the manual but came up with nothing.

Furthermore, I know that LEDs take only small amounts of power, but I worry about battery drainage over a period of time.

So, to recap, what is this light for and how do I turn it off?

I believed that they installed the LED light for after market security alarm wireless entry, that's mean it got nothing to do with your car's electrical operating system. I also think that the alarm is no longer functioning properly, if you want to turn off that LED light, Look for the fuse or the wiring which tap to the fuse box to disconnect it... good luck.

aftermarket alarms person put the little LED on there ...try close to the left foot rest where you drive see if there is a little switch or button you may have touched it and turned it off or the fuse blew on it so you ahve to find the alarm box that is under the dash where you are driving also so above your feet see what you find but id try to find a little switch close to the feet around the pedals cause i kow my old car used to have that and that was what i did and it stayed on and switched it off

I concur, it has to do with the alarm system. Find the fuse to the alarm, and remove it. Try under the carpet on the driver side. You could try calling the or an alarm installation place they will tell you where they are usually placed. Good luck!
