id say that for starters i would try some easy bolt on parts intake exhaust headers things like that then maybe step up if ur not getting the performace that u want i know a alot of the mr2's can be turbo'd or supercharged if u really wanna make power but then u might as well just start a full engine build but like i stated i would start with the normal bolt ons and if that doesnt give u wut u want go bigger

Don't worry about it. You have the 2.2 liter, 135 horsepower, twin cam 4 cylinder engine called the 5SFE. this engine is also used in the 1990-1999 Celica GT, 1990-1993 Celica GT-S, and the 1992-2001 4 cylinder Camry. It may be the least powerful engine in the MR2 but it's still pretty quick in it. Also, that statement is kinda dumb because there were only two engines offerd on that vintage MR2; the 135 hp 5SFE or the 200 hp turbocharged 3SGTE. There really isn't a lot that you can do to get any real performance out of it unless you want to boost it with a turbocharger. in all honesty, that engine should give you at least 3-400,000 miles in it's current form. While it's not the most powerful, it should outlive any turbo model with ease. That engine is without a doubt one of the most reliable engines on the planet.
