Not anymore. The Tacoma's of the late 90's had a recall from a frame rusting issue, but those that were affected probably arent still on the road because Toyota was giving huuuge incentives to trade in for a different truck.
My friend had a Tacoma, had fairly low miles, but the body was beat to crap, dents everywhere, cracked windsheild, burn holes in the interior, etc. But when the recall came out, the Toyota dealership paid him 150% of the Kelly Blue Book "excellent condition" value!
Also, my father has a 2000 4Runner (same chassis as Tacoma), it currently has just over 250,000 miles on it. ALl of those miles driven in Maine, where there is a ton of salt on the roads in the winter. He has had no rust problems whatsoever. Hardly even any surface rust on the frame or exhuast components. This truck has been on many trails, and has been driven pretty tough quite a few times, and even with a 1/4 million miles, it still runs strong, has not had any major problems, and still gets about 20 mpg mixed city and highway driving!
