Default would a rav 4 be able to go off road and do mild 4wding?
im getting a rav 4 and need it to go off road will this screw the car up or will it be able to coap

RAV4 is not a true 4x4 so just remember that is an AWD. Also there is no vehicle out there with an AWD system able to withstand torsion to the frame and drive-line without modifications.

a RAV4 will be fine on most paths and dirt roads, but will not be the right choice for anywhere rutted or that would generally require 4wd to get through. The car based design, and lack of a locking center differential, and low ground clearance, make it less than ideal for anywhere you wouldn't be comfortable taking a 2wd compact truck.

As for as off roading, as long as you drive "mildly" and don't thrash and abuse the RAV 4, you should be fine. Rav 4 was available with either 2 wheel drive or AWD. The AWD would of course be the better off roading choice.

For light offroading it will be fine. Go slow, watch for big rocks, that should be the biggest problem. Other than that, sure, unless it says 4X4 only, etc.
