Exhaust in/out sizes + which would sound better?

i want to upgrade my exhaust on my 92 toy pickup v6. i'm going to do a cat-back system but i dont know what size tubing is already on it, and what size to get. i think it looks like a 2 1/4in. tubing all the way through, but not sure. the tail pipe is for sure. (ALL STOCK). i want to put a flowmaster 40 series on. the pipe going in the muffler should be 2.25 inches, i know that, (or however big the pipe is) but how large should the pipe going out of the muffler be? i want it to be loud, but not lose any power. should it stay the same as the pipe going in, or be bigger?

Best bet is to listen to ones on youtube where you can pick a setup you like the sound of,on my car atm i have a catback which is 3" then a 4.5" muffler.

you can dump the pipe/muffler before the axel. most guys who do a exhaust system usually dont run the tips out the bumper, their there for looks mainly. no power gains in a chrome tip. if anything a bigger pipe may change the sound a tiny hair. other than that its for looks.

you will lose low end horsepower and torque but regain what you lost on the top end. a single pipe exhaust isnt gonna be loud by no means. depending on the muffler you choose it can sound ricey as hell.

flowmasters are the closest thing i heard to sound like a v8 on a v6, non ricey sound up top. magnaflow never delt with them but have heard them on other v6s ( non toyota ) and sounded really hollow up to top end and got kinda scratchy.

if you want super ass loud, run straight pipes with glasspacks, and no cats. my buddy done that to his ranger, sounded really good but was loud as hell.
