Low idle problems on a 2003 Toyota corolla?

Default Low idle problems on a 2003 Toyota corolla?
I have a 2003 Toyota corolla CE with about 260,000 miles on it and with 5 speed manual.I have an idle problem where I would down shift coming up to a stop sign and the idle would go below 1000rpms. Also while sitting at a red light it might go down to 500 rpms. I've tried cleaning the air filter along with the airbox and the masflow sensor. Can anyone give some advice as to what might be wrong? If it helps the check engine light is on.

get the check engine light read first. that might be the cause of the problem. also try cleaning the intake air control valve(IACV) or replace it. its located on the throttle body.
