Toyota headlights on for no reason. Why?

I woke up this morning and our 2003 Toyota Corolla headlights were on. I thought maybe someone got in there and turned them on (long story) but they hadn't. they are the automatic kind and I have no way to turn them off. Has this ever happened to you before? How can I turn them off? Why is this happening? Is it cold weather related?

Go get it check, It might be an electrical problem.

I agree with Zeus but also, have you checked the lights on the stalk to theleft of your steering wheel? If the lights are in on position, they will be on auto- mode only works when those are set off. If you have the lights on on the steering wheel stalk, then the lights will stay on.

The head lights are all controlled by the daytime running light relay. this is a little "computer box" that is under the dash just left of the steering column. it in turn energizes another relay.

first thing to try is to pull the parking brake. that might?? turn them off. If not - next go into the engine compt on the drivers side is an oblong box with fuses and relays in it. Take off the box lid and turn it over. inside should be a drawing showing the fuse and realy locations. look for "head main 40 amp". This should be a "big" fuse. pull that fuse - you can probably do this with your fingers put some tension on it and wiggle it a bit. that should put them out.

the headlights are controlled by the daytime running relay, a dimmer relay, the HEAD relay and the switch on the steering column. any of these components could be bad causing the problem. Probably going to take a competent electrical tech to figure it out and eliminate each component as a cause. .

Cold weather? maybe cause a relay to "warp" and come on - possibly?
