Default How to open lift gate on 2005 sequoia with a broken exterior handle?
I was able to pry up on the broken handle to open the door. Once open I removed the plastic panels then removed the broken part when to the local toyota dealer & paid 81.00 for a new one - Installation was 10 minutes - It took longer on removal since extra care had to be taken not to damage anything else. It requires a 10 mm socket with 6 to 8" extension & nut driver or ratchet, a phillips head screw driver & a flat pry bar or screw driver. Flashlight will be handy.

I had the exterior lift handle break on a Toyota Sienna XLE minivan and my best advice if time is critical is to purchase on-line from Toyota of Dallas TX or Toyota of Richardson TX bec discount is 30% of MSRP plus S&H unless you have local dealer 10%, 15% or 20% coupon.































Once it arrives you have to work slow & be patient popping off interior panel of rear lift from the inside and you will see what bolts to remove in order to replace. If you take your time it's not that difficult of a DIY job. Maybe even better depending on price savings might be to contact local junk yards in order to give you some hands-on practice.
