Can I copy my 2007 FJ cruiser car key at a hardware store?

Default Can I copy my 2007 FJ cruiser car key at a hardware store?
I need an extra key for a new driver could I have it copied at a regular hardware store. Does the key for an 07 FJ Cruiser have a chip inside it? If i got the key copied would it just open the doors but not start the car? and how much would it cost to get it copied.

You could get it copied so that it just unlocks the doors, but it would not start the car as it does have a chip in it. The only way to get a realy key is from the dealership and then the key must be programmed to match the existing computer in the car. A key will cost anywhere from $50-$300 and will cost $65-$120 to program .

Yes, it is a transponder key, so a store can cut it but can't program it to your car. It will work the doors but not the ignition. The dealer or an automotive locksmith will have to program it.































The source is one I have used a few times and have found reliable and inexpensive. Note that the key price is just for the blank and the shipping runs around $10. It is also for a 2008 FJ cruiser and a 2007 is not listed, so if you are serious about it you will want to call for clarification.

There's a chip in it. It's not going to start it. Cost us around $1000 for two keys on a Toyota 4-Runner
