The problem is that the gas pedal linkage might bind. Binding probably only happened on a handful out of millions of cars nevertheless because it is a safety issue the cars are being recalled. It doesn't make your car a piece of junk; it will probably never happen to you. The few accidents that did happen happened because the drivers didn't know what went wrong, were surprised by it, then panicked and did nothing or the wrong thing.
Now that you know it might happen you won't be surprised by it. I'd suggest you just practice in your mind putting the car in neutral, coming to a stop, and turning the car off. You and the car will be just fine. There is no reason not to continue driving the car. Bring it in for the repair when they come up with a solution.
