Toyota is a world manufacturer with their corporate headquarters in Toyota City, Japan. They assemble their vehicles in several countries including the U.S.
To know which country your Toyota was assembled in, you only need to look at the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You will find the VIN by looking on the left side of the dash looking through the windshield or by looking at your vehicle registration papers.
The first character of the VIN is the Manufacturing Country Code. This tells the country where the vehicle was assembled. Here are a few common ones.
1 or 4 = United States
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico
J = Japan
K = Korea
S = England
W = Germany
Z = Italy
The second character will be T for Toyota
The 10th character will be the model year
The 11th character will tell you the location of the assembly plant. Here are most of them.
0 - 9 = Japan
C = Cambridge, ON, CA
E = United Kingdom
K = Japan
M = Baja, CA, US
R = Lafayette, IN, US (Subaru of Indiana Automotive) Interesting
S = Princeton, IN, US
U = Georgetown, KY, US
W = Woodstock, ON, CA
X = San Antonio, TX, US
Z = Fremont, CA, US
As you can see, there are several Toyota assembly plants located in more than 1 country.
