The pressure plate is what they call a diafram type and underneath the hood you have a small master cylinder connected to the clutch pedal which operates a hydraulic piston at the trans . This is what pushes your pressure plate in and out.
The pressure plate is what keeps the force up against the clutch disc, when your clutch wears down to a certain point, then it will start to slip.
I doubt if you'll find any clutch setups out there with linkage anymore unless it's a big truck.
