How much more life on a toyota 22re?

Im thinking of buying a 1991 toyota pickup 2 wheel drive with a 22re and a 5 speed tranmission its in decent shape for 1500 dollars but it has 160k miles on it i was wondering how mant more miles should i expect before it needs somekind of rebuild or overhaul I hear they are reliable motors but to me 160k miles is sorta high

160k is just getting broken in.

Well maintained vehicles will last well past the 200k mile mark.

It does sound like a lot, but it's certainly capable of more. That engine has a timing chain, so with little maintenance it will last 200,000 plus under normal conditions. I'd be most worried about the clutch, I'd want to know how recently if ever it were replaced, and then obviously the condition of the vehicle as a whole. Around here many such pickups have a lot of rust on the frame, which is a huge safety issue.

How far from your house to the dealership?

Because it will breakdown at some point on your ride home.

The place I used to work for had a fleet of 80~90s Toyota pickup as delivery trucks. Some had 200+ and one with 300+. They get wreaked before dying.

btw, the 22re is one of the best built motor in the world. Think they produced more 20R series than the small block chevy.

22re was a really good motor back in the 90s. At 100K the engine just got broke in. If the motor has been taken care of and you take good care of it it will last over 300K miles no problem. Most last 350-400K miles to be honest. My dads 89 toyota Camry is at 335K and still runs really good. He even took it on an 8 hour trip not to long ago. Toyota's last a long time when taken care of and the 22re was a great motor! Truck has a lot of life left and $1500 isn't a bad price!
