To get heat, heated coolant must flow into the heater core. It will do that as long as there is enough coolant, and the heater control valve allows it to flow into the core and the air control duct for heat is damped to direct that heat into the car. Do you remember the heat control being stiff to operate, but later becoming easy once again? It might be that the operating cable or levers came loose and you can't turn on the heat.
Before you start taking the dash apart, look in the radiator to see that it's full, or has no coolant showing- there should always be coolant showing. If all that loks good, get a Chiltons Auto Repair manual for your car and follow the instructions to expose the heater controls so you can see what is broken. That'll take you an hour and cost you $20. If you go to a Toyota shop, they will fix it for $100 more than you can imagine.
