Default 1998 Toyota Cavalier "Check Engine light On" a day after i ran out of Petrol?
Hi, Can you please help. Yesterday i ran out of petrol, I stopped, went to a petrol station, put some petrol, car started as usual, Evening took for a ride, no problem, This morning while comin to work , "Check engine light came on" No leakage , no overheating.Plz reply ASAP

I did a on-board diagnosis (OBD2) and found "MAT" sensor error. There was a leaking pressure hose due to wear and tear.Got it replaced, At present "Check engine" light is gone but i wonder , this had anything to do with me running out of gas or was just a coincidence.

Stop by an auto parts store and have them scan the computer. There is a code that will help pinpoint the problem. We can help you more when we know what the CEL is on for.































ADDITIONAL DETAILS:















Since you ran it out of gas, you may have broke loose some trash in the tank and clogged the fuel filter. You may want to replace it and see if that helps. The CEL may reset itself once the problem is repaired.































I would have to say it was coincidence. Things wear out and it is a 12 year old vehicle. But try not to run the gas tank below 1/8th. The fuel pump need the gas to help keep it cool. Good luck

Some Toyota models have had, a few years ago, problems with oil sludge build-up in their engines, leading to damaged engines, even with warranty-approved maintenance, and a successful class-action lawsuit in the U.S..
