Default 2001 Toyota Corolla LOW MPG.?
Hi, I recently bought a 2001 corolla with 85k miles. I've change air filter, flushed engine, changed oil. It looks like ill finish with 160miles on a tank. Something is very wrong with that. I will change spark plugs, spark plugs wires, clean fuel injector with the liquid via gas tank, and planning to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) with the MAF cleaner spray. What could be causing this big issue? what needs to be serviced? Thank you.















2001 corolla -85k miles- automatic















I get no symptoms, other than the fuel gauge going from Full to Empty fast. I don't hear, feel, or smell anything unusual with the brakes.

The tune up is a good idea. Also get a fuel pressure test done. The fuel pressure regulator could be bad. See if any of these symptoms sound familiar.































Engine runs rough















Engine stumbles or sputters















Engine runs very rich - black smoke from the exhaust















Engine will not start















Engine starts but stalls shortly after startup















Noisy fuel pump















Noticeable decrease in fuel mileage































These are signs that the fuel pressure regulator is failing.
