As more damaging information emerges and expensive recalls widen to include more models and more years, the loss of revenue and reputation to Toyota will reduce them to a minor player in America. The many individual and class-action lawsuits will also drain their corporate coffers. If, as you suggest, it turns out that the 'sudden acceleration' problem is electronic and not mechanical (floor mats), the damage could be irreversible. Toyota's reputation and integrity has already been brought into serious question; that would finish it.
