My understanding is the accelerator pedal company is headquartered in Indiana USA and the parts were actually made in Canada. so - don't blame Japan for everything! (Cant blame China either!)















Of course Toyota is responsible for the design specs and the ultimate reliability of ALL the parts. That is part of the risk of being in the car business - if a supplier sends you some crap parts - the car company still has to clean up the mess. Also the dispute arises from the supplier - that "you specified that we build the parts like that - and they are crap"! Round and round it goes.

For the so-called 'defective' gas pedal, Toyota has uncharacteristically acknowledged that the problem was in its own design, not the manufacturer's fabrication of it. But it appears more and more that the sudden acceleration problem is electronic, despite what Toyota has argued so vociferously to date.

It does not matter where they were built! Toyota is the head of the company. they run it. they supervise it. THEY are responsible.
