The only thing the Maintenance required light relates to is your oil change. It is designed to start blinking at 4thousand miles after an oil change and stay on at 5thousand. If this is not true to the distance from your last oil change the light might not have been reset properly. the process to reset the light is as follows:
turn on ignition (not engine) press the odo button to read either the odometer or trip A, hold the button down turn the key off and back on (again, only ignition not engine) you should see lines on the odometer blinking and going away, when all numbers say 0's, the light is reset.
4runners have a reset button that uses the same step except there will be no 0's.
Your dealer can also do this for you in about 2 seconds and wont charge. just make sure you know when to get your oil changed next.
