I'd trust a Toyota to be safer in the 80's or 90's, than the 2000's. I bought a 2004 Matrix xrs and its cheaply made with pot metal that flakes off the handles and drawers that won't stay shut, even after being replaced. My 1987 Camry was good and 1995 Camry was good. The 2000's seemed to fall in quality. I am sorry I bought a Toyota in the 2000's, now. Just be safe, consider a well taken care of older one. Call senior mobile home parks for someone selling one, they usually take good care of their cars. Check consumers reports, I guess. So far no bad recalls on mine...I hope.
