So you cannot safely assume that just because a Toyota vehicle was manufactured in Japan, it is any safer or defect-free.

the VIN number that begins with J.....meaning they were build in Japan, (has denso pedal, these pedals were not included in the recall). All American pedals were included in recall....































VIN NUMBERS WITH 1-4......those were build here on US grounds...

Comment on "Indian's" answer above - not entirely accurate re: "US Gounds". VINS beginning with 1 OR 4 are made in US (on US Grounds) (NUMMI Fremont CA). VIN's beginning 2 are made in CANADA (Cambridge Ontario). VIN's with 3 are made in MEXICO (i dont think (?) any Corollas are made in Mexico?). A lot of them are made in Canada. the pedal assemblies in question are ALSO made in a Canada plant by a US based company.















Incidentally - the NUMMI plant was a joint venture w/GM. GM has pulled out and it is scheduled to close (if it hasnt already?). Toyota will probably be moving Corolla production to another US palnt.
