Default Should I trade in my toyota?

I have 2 small kids and im worried about our safety. I know they are saying its only 200 vehicles out of the thousands built but Im not so sure I can trust that im not one of them. I know they say to put it in neutral, press the key button, etc.. but seriously when your car takes off will someone really react that quickly? What if you go to stop at an intersection and the car keeps going? Is there that much reaciton time? Im just worried... what are your thoughts? I contacted toyota today and they said they have a shim for the pedal but they're not completely sure that will fix it. I just don't want to be a day too late..

The pedal and floor mat fix will not be the final answer. Toyota has said as much. And NHTSA testimonials of some owners said that when they turned the key on - off - on the problem went away. that is not a stuck floor mat or stuck pedal. that is the sign of a computer that doesn't know which way is up.

Shifting to neutral won't work because the gear shift is only a switch that "talks" to the computer. The COMPUTER will shift to neutral when he gets time. Ms Smiths testimony in front of congress said she tried neutral and reverse ... The car wouldn't stop. A trained california highway patrolman and his family are dead because even though he had enough time to call 911 he couldn't stop his car. There is no physical connection between the shifter and transmissions.

How much reaction time is needed. There is a case where a lady came out of a car wash swerved to miss a light pole and smashed ito the side of a car on a 4 lane highway. Total time was about 4 seconds.

You will never know.

I understand that you are concerned, but all auto makers have had massive recalls. I've owned 3 Scions, and 2 Toyotas. Very reliable cars. Very safe. The officer who died was because he had double stacked floor mats. Carpet and rubber. This was verified by the State patrol.

I don't believe the floor mats or peddle is the problem..neither does the Government. It is suspected that electronic drive by wire failure is at fault in at least some of the cases. The fix by toyota does NOT address this. And there were 8.5 MILLION Toyoda's recalled.--(and 38 people KILLED) I would would never put my children in those cars..not even after the so called fix. Because Toyota is lying about the fix. There is not a fix unless an over ride switch was installed when built..Toyota did NOT do this while other car makers did.And toyota does not intend to do this as a fix on your car. That makes it permanently unsafe. ...now if you are experienced at shifting the car into neutral while going 100 miles per hour, as you veer off the road to safety, and you know how to control the car without question if catastrophe occurs...then keep it...otherwise..your own life, and the life of your children, is in peril. These accidents don't happen often that's true..but it only takes ONCE. Good luck.

No, Toyota is still more reliable that most other makes. What would you buy instead? Fords have exactly the same problems and they won't even admit to them, so what are all the other manufacturers hiding?

The facts are the facts whether some people in here will admit to them or not. These cars are simply the least safe vehicles on the road right now. To take a gamble driving them with your family in the car is unforgivable. There are many other safer options out there.

Are you a gambler? Because that's exactly what your doing is taking a gamble. Although the chances are slim that the same will happen to you its still a better chance than that of another vehicle. I say trade it in get what you can for it! Toyota still doesn't even know if its electrical and like they did with the two other issues they are downplaying that! Why would you trust anything they say at this point.....or anything they make!
