What happens if you hit the Park or the Power button on a Prius while it is moving?

I hit Park by accident once when I was going about 2mph and got total whiplash. What would happen if I hit it going faster? I assume there is some kind of override, but I'd be dumb to test my theory. I almost hit Park once going about 50mph while reaching for the radio.

you will mess up really bad the transmision.

and the car won't work again.

i try that when i was going at 20 and my car is mess up now.

and plus my friend had to help me push it.

Above about 6 MPH selecting park or reverse in a Prius just makes the car beep at you and go to neutral. Pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds makes the car go from READY to IG-ON which disables all motive power and the electronic power steering. Power brakes continue to function however.

If you press Park or shift to reverse and you're going faster than 6 mph the Prius will beep and go to Neutral--no muss, no damage. You can also hold the shifter to the N position for several seconds and it will go into Neutral--but me, I'd use one of the first two because they act instantly.

If you press the Power button and hold it down for several seconds, the Prius will go to ACC mode. Engine will be off, brake power assist will be on, traction battery will be disconnected.

The Prius is about the safest car out there. The latest "incident" sounds more like someone trying to avoid a speeding ticket rather than a car problem.
