...turing key to left? turn key to left with one click will still give you control of steering and shut the engine off or put car in neutral.

Its a button not a key and i think with the engine accelerating you can't put them in neutral on a prius

Some of the reports I've heard says that does not work. The story about the guy driving the Lexus who died with his family tried turning the key to shut off the engine and the car actually sped up. It was documented on the 911 recording. That said, it sounds like in some cases it's an electrical issue, because if it was mechanical, the car would have shut off. He also tried putting the car in neutral and the car sped up. That tells me that we have an electrical problem. It's overiding whatever a person tries to do to shut the car off or slow it down.

Next time you're suddenly going 90MPH through no fault of your own, steering to avoid cars in front of you and trying to keep the car right-side up and on the road, see if you can think clearly enough to turn the key off.

I think that with all of the news coverage of this fiasco, even the dumbest Toyota owner would remember to try shifting into neutral. Toyota engineers, who should be taken out and shot, probably decided that there should be no mechanical connection between the shift lever and the transmission. Why use a cable when you can use electronics? The Japanese have no understanding of the concept of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

What key? You don't need a key or anything else in the ignition to drive a Prius. The engine will turn on as long as the key is somewhere in the car. I usually have mine in my pocket or my bag.
