Default is it possible to change a toyota echo (car) from a manual to an automatic?
i was interested in buying a toyota echo but the one i like is a manual, which i cant drive. i was wondering if its possible to change it to an automatic. and if so around how much would it cost!

It is possible, but it's definitely not worth it. It would involve changing the gearbox and flywheel to torque converter and all related linkages, and I believe the Echo has a computer controlled box, which means a new engine control unit will have to be wired in.

Xander is 110% spot on correct. Look for one with a slip and slid or learn to drive a stick. Learning to drive is stick is no big trick. You need a coach for 15 minutes and an empty parking lot for an hour or so and you will be jamming gears with the best of them.

Yes - it is probably NOT worth it. The only way to make it work for sure is to find an Echo auto that has been rear ended and totaled. buy the whole car if you can. Swap the ENTIRE engine and transmission front sub-frame assy into your car. Swap in the ECU computer too for the automatic. you will need all the shift lever stuff and the shift cables to make it work too. Assuming it all works finally - you then sell your manual engine tsm assy (or just the transmission and keep the engine as a spare. Sell for scrap or part out any usable parts from the donor car and you are done!
