2004 Rav4 Alarm Won't Stop Going Off?

I have a 2004 rav4 and every time I try to open the door with the key instead of the remote, my alarm goes off and I can't get it to stop.

This morning, my remote wasn't working so I tried to open the door with my key. As soon as I opened the door, my alarm started going off. I got into the car and shut the doors and eventually it stopped on its own but I had to keep pressing the unlock button on my remote until it worked in order to get my car to start.

If anyone else has had a similar problem and knows a solution it would be much appreciated!

First try to by a new battery for the remote, clean the contacts while you are inside of it. Using rubbing alcohol, and keeping it as dry as possible. The rubber keypad maybe soiled. After you have cleaned it, put it back together, and then try it out to see if it worked. Goodluck.

This does NOT sound like a Toyota original equipment alarm. a lot of dealers put in their own aftermarket alarms to make more profit. It sounds like the feature to be connected to the door locks is not working. (not connected?). you (unfortunately) probably need a good electrical tech to look at the alarm and see if some wires have come off or something. usually the alarm brain box is under the dash on the driver side and is connected to about a dozen wires to make it work right.

on the older Toyota original alarms - if the alarm is going off you can turn the key in the ignition on-off twice and it will turn of the alarm. if it is a not a Toyota alarm - that probably wont work.
