Get a timing light.Get a Chiltons or other good auto manual covering the '82 with a 22r. Get a set of wrenches.
Remove and plug the vacuum advance line to the distributor after you bring the engine to operating temperature. Connect the timing light- it comes with instructions. Locate the timing marks- perhaps highlighting the target with some liquid paper or chalk. Read the tune up specifications in the manual. Loosen the hold-down bolt on the distributor enought so it can turn, but don't turn it yet. Start the engine and set the idle speed to the tune-up spec. Aim the timing light at the timing mark and move the distributor until the mark lines up correctly.. Tighten up the distributor and put back the vacuum line. Now, do what the book says do.
