Recommend replacing timing belt tensioner...?

Default Recommend replacing timing belt tensioner...?
I have a 2002 4runner and is at that mileage where the timing belt should be replaced... I am also replacing the water pump and all drive belts... But, should I replace the hydraulic belt tensioner also?... I have a tool that let's me change the timing belt without removing a/c compressor, or having to remove the tensioner... Just wondering if there are any expert opinions on this, because I don't know if there are usually problems with the tensioner... Thanks in advance to all thoughtful responses...

Yes. Replace it. It's a fairly cheap part, and replacing it later on will be a major hassle. Better to do it now while it's all apart.

Once you get there you better replace what ever would be faulty on incoming years, just do it, it will give more peace of mind at least for this component. Get in there later on just to replace the belt tensioner is not worth it.

Your tensioner pulley is not hydraulic it is spring loaded and if your belts are not squeaking then it doesn't really need to be replaced as far as every thing else i would go ahead and replace the rest of the parts you listed above... I apologize i have never heard or ever seen a hydrolic tensioner pulley. hope the rest of my answer is still valid.

In my opinion if the part isn't expensive then I'd probably change it especially if it's my personal vehicle that I drive bec to me preventive maintenance is a vital tool in keeping any vehicle up to par especially if its close to 10 yrs old or has high mileage.
