2009 Toyota Corolla suddenly reaching very high RPM?
My car has about 22,000 miles on it.. I haven't had any significant problems with it for as long as I've owned it (bought it new). But this morning, I noticed the RPM was shooting really high... For example, if I was going 60mph, it would be past 5RPM. I know this isn't normal. The car was making noises too. Even when I parked, the RPM was closer to 1, not 0.
I don't know if this is related but more recently (before this problem), I noticed my steering wheel kind of vibrates ... as if the wind is blowing my car really hard or something. This might be nothing but I read somewhere that both these issues could be realted to transmission problems.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Should I take the car to my dealership or just any shop? Or is there something I can do myself?
Thanks for the comments. I will be taking it to the dealer. I was reading other complaints and it seems their RPM and acceleration is out of their control even when they aren't pressing the accelerator anymore. Whereas my issue is that when I accelerate, the RPM is shooting up. So maybe it can be fixed by changing the transmission oil or something... though I don't see how I "wore" out the car in a year of use. In any case, hopefully I'll find out soon.
