1991 Camry: Why does my coolant keep spreading on my engine?

Bought it used yesterday. Was on the freeway worry free for an hour until all of the sudden the meter goes from between H and C, to straight up to H in the red zone. I had to fill up the the coolant and water all over again. It wasn't empty but it did lose tons of anti freeze. Had to stop and turn off the car for abt 3 times before I got home. Every time I turned it off, it was really steamy. At first I thought the cap on the antifreeze bucket wasn't sealed properly, whether it was or not, it made no difference. The radiator looks pretty new and the A/C and heater works fine. The car doesn't have an air filter yet but I doubt that has to do with the problem.

take it back to where u bought it.... in most states the seller of a used car is responsible for the well being of the car for 1 month from the date of sale, unless the seller told u it had a radiator problem. most people don't know this.

u have a radiator hose leaking or an engine gasket leaking......... lift the hood, fill the radiator up with distilled water, turn the car on, and try to see where the engine or hoses are spitting out water.

take it to a repair shop, but contact the seller 1st, to make sure he will pay for it... get the cash 1st............get an air filter too.......... and when it's fixed have the repair guy put anti-freeze in it.

if the seller won't pay for it, sue him.... or you'll just have to pay for the repairs yourself., good luck
