What doses it mean when the engine light comes on after tapping the starter with a hammer.?

Default What doses it mean when the engine light comes on after tapping the starter with a hammer.?
I have a 03 toyota camry v6 and i tapped the starter to get the car going. Well I did it today and after i tapped it my engine light came on. My car was on, but would not accelerate. I turned it back off and turned the key quickly to turn it back on. it worked and the car was driving fine. Is this just telling me that I need a new starter?

If your hitting your starter with a hammer that is the indication that you need a new starter. If it continues to have problems after you replace the starter then you need to look further into it. Get a starter soon, you'll only be able to do that for so long.

When the light came on it set a trouble code in the computer. Have that code extracted at a car part store that does free OBD2 scans. That will tell you why the light came on.

Maybe you fooled the knock sensor into thinking it was seeing some bad pre-ignition?
