Is it normal for an 89 Toyota Celica to run at 3000 RPMs going 60 MPH in 5th gear?

3500 at 70 4000 at 75.

I dotn have that Celica, but I think 60 mph at 3000 RPM is high. Toy wouldnt make that ratio at 5th gear. My camry runs at 2200 RPMs

NO.If it is a automatic I would say the overdrive is not working.

The guy (0 0) who answered is wrong, it can't be an automatic since it's in 5th gear...the fourth generation celica didn't have a 5 speed auto (most cars didn't back then).































But to answer your question directly, in 5th gear, 3000~4000 rpm at 60~70 mph is a little high, a lot of vehicles hit 80~85 mph before revving at 4k rpm. It's not reeeally abnormally high, but it seems a little high. Perhaps bringing it in to a mechanic for a quick checkup will answer your question for sure!

Your car is running about where it should. When I had my '86, that's where it ran and my '94 runs there too.
