Prius has short life expectancy...are you brain dead....Prius can go past 130K with no battery problem. I have a friend who owns an 05 prius, his prius is at 132K, no major problems
(1) Reliability
With regard to reliability, I will use AutoOnInfo.net?s measures. AutoOnInfo.net converts Consumer Reports' 5 motor vehicle ratings into grades:
A = "much better than average"
B = "better than average"
C = "average"
D = "worse than average"
F = "much worse than average"
and then uses the standard 4.00 scale to convert the letter grades to Grade Points:
4.00 = A
3.00 = B
2.00 = C
1.00 = D
0.00 = F
and then computes a Grade Point Average for each vehicle for each of four 4-year age ranges and then computes an average GPA and awards a grade based on this average using the following ranges:
A = 3.50 to 4.00,
B = 2.50 to 3.49,
C = 1.50 to 2.49,
D = 0.50 to 1.49,
F = 0.00 to 0.49.
By this method, Toyota has a 2009 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.62, over a 6-year history, and a Reliability Grade of A. For comparison, here are some overall 2009 Reliability GPAs for several lines:
The Toyota line: 3.69 (A)
The Honda line: 3.50 (A)
The Ford line: 2.16 (C)
The Chrysler line: 1.61 (C)
The Chevrolet line: 1.36 (D)
and overall 2009 Reliability GPAs for several manufacturers:
Toyota Motor: 3.67 (A)
Honda Motor: 3.47 (B)
Nissan Motor: 2.61 (B)
Mazda Motor: 2.42 (C)
Ford Motor: 2.14 (C)
Hyundai Motor: 1.97 (C)
The Chrysler Group: 1.34 (D)
General Motors: 1.34 (D).
(2) Durability
On AutoOnInfo.net?s High Mileage Roster, there are more than 758 Toyotas with more than 550,000 miles.
Also, by AutoOnInfo.net?s detailed computations, a typical Toyota at 19 years of age appears to be about as trouble free as a typical General Motors vehicle at 3 years of age and a typical Toyota at 15 years of age appears to be about as trouble free as a typical Ford Motor vehicle at 3 years of age.
(3) Consumer Reports? Worst Cars
On CR?s 2010 list of Worst Cars, In fact, there are very few Toyotas on this list. Here is each of the major manufacturers? share of this Worst-Car list:
Honda Motor: 0%
Toyota Motor: 1%
Nissan Motor: 3%
Ford Motor: 10%
The Chrysler Group: 18%
General Motors: 41%.
(4) CAA?s Excellence Awards
From 1983 to 2003, the Canadian Automobile Association has given Pyramid Awards for "vehicle engineering excellence in terms of actual, long-term, reliable performance." Toyota Motor Corporation has overwhelmingly dominated this measure of excellence. Here are the number of Pyramid Awards received by each of the major automobile manufacturers:
Toyota Motor: 18
Honda Motor: 3
Nissan Motor: 3
Ford Motor: 1
The Chrysler Group: 0
General Motors: 0
(5) The Reputation Institute?s international survey on trust, esteem, admiration, and favorable feeling
Here, too, Toyota Motor is the best of the automobile manufacturers. Here are the rankings for the automobile manufacturers with major sales in North America:
Toyota Motor: 6th place
Honda Motor: 20th place
Nissan Motor: 161st place
Ford Motor: (without a place in the top 200)

In summary, the Toyota is a very good vehicle comparing to other manufacturer companies.
