45 to 50 should be OK. Overdrive is just a higher gear than Drive in an automatic, or Fourth (if it's a five-speed) in a manual. In Drive or Fourth, the transmission is turning at the same speed as the engine, or a one-to-one ratio. In Overdrive, it's turning faster than the engine, about .79 or .82-to-one. This makes you go farther for each engine revolution. Driving in Drive (or Fourth) absolutely won't hurt anything except your gas mileage. Millions and millions of cars have been driven without even having overdrive, so there is no harm in not using it. In fact, on a steep hill, or pulling a heavy load, it's better to use the next gear down.
