Default What is this part on my 1997 toyota camry?

The bigish thing that is silver and has the 4 rectangular holes in it?















I was driving home and my car started acting up and the engine light went on and thru the holes on mine I saw this part was glowing bright red.















P.S.. this is not my car just a similiar one to mine

Its the heat shield for your exhaust manifold, if that was glowing red it means your engine is overheating very badly, your radiator most likely needs servicing. Take it to a mechanic ASAP before you destroy the engine. I wouldn't recommend driving it anywhere except to the shop, and when you do put the heat on full, this will help remove excess heat from the engine.

Yes it looks like excessive heat around that area of the manifold..it looks like you radiator is blocked...it does happen and you get sludge and deposits in there that blocks the coolant working around the engine properly.















Please visit the garage asap.
