So can somebody explain to me why Toyota has to pay the goverment so much money?

Default So can somebody explain to me why Toyota has to pay the goverment so much money?
why exactly are they paying the goverment millions of dollars?... shouldnt that money go to the victims of their pedal problems and not the government?

they violated safety regulations, so they have to pay the fine, just like you have to pay the government if you cross a red light, or a better example would be a restaurant, if the restaurant does something that does not meet regulations (not cook food to right temperatures) they get fined....same with toyota, i guess they didnt follow some regulation so now they have to pay their fine...and the result for not following the regulation was not only the fine but the faulty pedals that then get them into even deeper trouble

Good point.















Government should only exist as a representative of people, and should never be able to profit from what it does itself.















That would be an incredible incentive for corruption.















How can we trust government to be fair with Toyota?































Similarly, if you run a red light, the government should not get the fine.















It should go to accident victims.
