Would putting a super charger in my truck destroy gas mileage?

I have an '08 Tacoma Preunner with a 4 banger and even with a stick shift I'm not satisfied with the pick up. I was considering outting a super charger in it, but Im also worried about gas which is why i got the the 4 cylinder instead of a v6. Would my mileage be destroyed by a superchager? Would the speed boost even be worth putting a super charger in it?

It wouldn't destroy it but it would definitely bring it down. Considering the faster your vehicle is, the faster you want to go, and the harder you are on the gas pedal the lower your mpg would be.

Honestly the cost of putting a supercharger on your truck wouldn't really be worth it in my opinion. You would notice a difference in speed but it wouldn't be anything extraordinary. If you want a faster vehicle with good gas mileage I'd just buy a smaller turbo'd car instead of putting a supercharger on your truck.

It would increase fuel consumpton but that is the least of your problems. You would need to re-programme the whole engine management system, there are companies that can do this but it will be expensive. The cheapest option is trade it and buy the V6 version, if it is the 4litre that Toyota fit to the 4 Runner then 245hp should be enough!!!!

PS Dont think about fitting a V6 into your truck, all the wiring and many other parts are different.

Don't do it. It is an expensive proposition... not a good $:HP investment. It is also a pain to get tuned and running right I hear. For the $3K you would spend doing this, you could sell your truck and purchase a V8, which may actually give you more HP and better fuel economy that the supercharged 4.0L.
