My mom has a 2000 Toyota Camry. It's been making low rumbling noises and the other day the check engine light started flashing. Anyone encounter this before? What's going on? Any ideas?
While it is still flashing, take it to Autozone or Oreilly's and get a trouble code with their scanners. they do it fo free. If the light stays on, that means the problem just got worse. It could be the Anti Lock Breaking system.
A flashing MIL means "catalyst damaging misfire detected" in other words if she keeps driving it like that the catalytic converter will plug up due to overheating as it is now burning off the unburnt fuel that got past the misfiring cylinder.
It means you are causing damage to the catalytic converter most likely due to a misfire. Take the vehicle to the dealer and they can determine the cause of misfire and if catalytic converter damage has already been done. The longer you wait the more likely you will damage the converter.
