Default 1991 corolla idles erratically after long drives?
The engine idles fine when it's cold. When I'm driving, the engine sounds fine. After long drives, once you put the clutch down, say to stop at a red light, the engine will drop to 200rpm, go up to 1500, drop back down...and it will do this for a couple minutes until it settles down. Sometimes, if you come to a quick stop while it's doing this, the engine stalls out. After it's stalled, I usually have to wait a couple minutes before it starts up again.

The two major suspects are the throttle body needing cleaning (the idle passages getting worse when air is not being pulled through them while the engine is still putting out power) and the EGR valve hanging open a bit. Cleaning the throttle body is a good thing to do - I have no idea why it is not added to the maintenance schedule, especially for Toyotas - and cleaning may fix the problem. If not, EGR cleaning is the next step. I don't favor shotgunning parts, but these are maintenance items that are commonly overlooked and should have been done every 30K miles IMHO.
