how good are japanese engines (95 corolla 1.6)?

Default how good are japanese engines (95 corolla 1.6)?
I bought a 1995 corolla engine (japanese engine) supposedly with less than 60,000 miles, can a mechanic or anybody let me know how good or bad these engines are? Any information on these japanese engines is very much appreciated.

They are very tough engines, just make sure you put a new cambelt on it while it's easy to do. Check all the gasket and seals, particularly the rear main seal- you might just replace it because it's right in back and after the engine is in the car you cannot get to it at all.
