does mr 2 engine use same parts as toyota corolla?

what kind of engines do 90s mr 2s have? and what parts do they use? the engines reliable?

The normally aspirated engines that are used on the 2nd generation mr2s are the 5sfe and 3sge. the 5sfe is 2.2 litre while the 3sge is 2.0. I have seen many 5sfe with over 300km and a few 3sge with over 400km (running perfectly) the 3sge was put in the european and jdm vehicles while the 5sfe was put in the north american cars. though the 3sge lacks 200cc to the 5sfe it has around 3-40 more horsepower. Though the 3sge engine makes more horsepower stock with a turbo kit the 5sfe can surpass it, though I know that the turbo kits are very rare and reduce engine life but i would still expect 250km out of a 5sfte (turboed 5sfe)































The Turbo mr2s received the 3sgte engine which as you might have guessed is the 3sge with a turbo setup on it. The turbo mr2s also received better brakes and upgraded suspension i believe. the 3sgte is 2.0 litres and is extremely tunable and the favorite for enthusiasts. The turbo in the american cars allowed the engine to produce around 200 hp while the jdm turbo allowed for 220 hp. the 3sgte shares common reliability with the 3sge. One was a ceramic turbo and the other was steel. All the engines use the same motor mounts and are interchangeable. The parts however have their limits when it comes to enterchangeability. the 3sge will swap almost all parts with the 3sgte and vice versa (minus the turbo setup) but only selected parts may be used from/for the 5sfe. the 3sge and 3sgte were both used in the toyota celica gt4.

The old 80's MR2s used Corolla engines; the 90's MR2's used Celica engines. Regardless of which MR2, they are very reliable. It's not uncommon to see MR2s with 200,000-300,000 miles on them with original engines. Due to the size and weight of an MR2, they are considered overbuilt.
