For beginners, I would suggest a cat back exhaust or an intake. Those are pretty simple to install. For a beginner, I would say it'll take a couple hours.
USDM Toyota isn't really known for turbochargers except for the Supra's and certain MR2's. They do more supers.
As for the MSD, I don't think the car needs one. It is meant for high revving engines where the sparks cannot keep up with the pistons. The MSD comes in to help it catch up with the rev. I only needed a MSD on my weber carb 4age. With the combination of the small displacement, the car can rev higher than factory. However, with a stock car for now, that might not be needed.
