they come in two main trims.
both are a 1.8L inline 4 cyclinder.
the gt is the lower trim while the gt-s is the higher
gt: they have drum brakes in the rear, most dont come with leather or upgraded sound package, most only have alloy wheels, they make 140hp and come in either a 5 speed manual or 4 speed with o/d automatic. they take regular gas and get around 27-30city and 30-35 highway. the gt engine number is 1zz-fe which has vvti (continous variable valve timing on the intake not to be confused with hondas vtec). easy way to distinguish this engine is the black plastic intake manifold.
gt-s: have 4 wheel disc brakes with optional abs. most come with leather. most have 5 spoke prem. wheels. they make 180hp and come in either a quick throw/very close 6 speed manual tranny (which I highly recommend) or a 4 speed triptronic (paddle shifter on the steering wheel) automatic which is slow and basically just a regular automatic. gt-s requires prem. gas due to higher compression and gets aroun 27-30 city and 32-40 highway. the gt-s engine number is 2zz-ge which has vvti-l (where L stands for "lift" which is similiar to honda vtec. it engages at 6k rpm on the 00-01,03,05 ones and 7.2k on 02,04 models; this makes the 02,04 slower, but this is closely related to hondas i-vtec.)
both cars are very reliable and require very little mainteance. the only known issue was on the gt 00-02 where a few have been known to burn oil but not much. these cars are very agile fwd drives and are pretty quick. they are known for their tracking ability rather than straight line speeds. insurane is relatively cheap on them also as they are not considered a sports car.
