is this mechanic talking out of his arse?

hi, my mother in law had a car accident in her landcruiser and put it on its side,whilst on its side it lost oil from the exhaust,but was running for short time,i know it will turn over and run,but the mechanic says he needs to strip the engine to check the cylinders and pistons to check theres no oil in them,i thought he was slimy n talking himself into a job,but my knowledge of engines is limited,can anyone tell me if this is waffle?

dude someone is pulling something that is for sure. when we had this issue we would pull the plugs and cranks the engine for a minute re-install the spark plugs and deal with the smoke for a few minutes and all is good.if there is further cause then a compression test may be needed. you need to take this to a decent mechanic who wants to make an honest living

It is stupid to go to all of the expense to strip that engine just to check for damage! Make sure all the the fluids are filled properly and run the engine to see what it does. If it seems ok it probably is. If it is not OK the damage was done already and you have not lost much.
